Top federal bureaucrat makes the switch to Proximity

Commercial, Consulting, Legal

Podcast

We are delighted to announce the appointment of one of Australia’s most experienced senior public servants, former departmental head, Kerri Hartland.

In welcoming Kerri to the team, we have strengthened our consulting capabilities in organisational design, change management, service delivery reform, governance and program management.

Kerri was Secretary of the Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business (2017-2020) and has held numerous senior executive roles across the Australian Public Service, including as Deputy Director-General with ASIO (2011-2017), Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance, Industry, Resources and Energy, Human Services, Immigration and Employment.

Amongst her proudest achievements, Kerri was the first female and first externally appointed Deputy Director-General (Chief Operating Officer) of ASIO (2011-2017) and was a strong advocate for diversity in this and all her roles.

Following the devastating bushfires of last summer, Kerri has been working as a B2b coordinator with Sir Peter Cosgrove on the Business Council of Australia’s initiative, BizRebuild, to support Australia’s bushfire recovery.

‘The Proximity team is excited to be welcoming Kerri, who brings vast experience and an impressive track record across much of the Australian Public Service,’ said Proximity Director, James Dunn.
‘Kerri has a great reputation as an accomplished problem solver and for successfully leading major service delivery reform and change management programs across a range of portfolios. Given her extensive experience at the highest levels of national security, Kerri will take an active role in growing our capability in this space.’

Kerri said she is excited to be joining Proximity as a new Principal Advisor at a time the business is undergoing continued growth, despite the challenges presented by COVID-19.
‘I’m keen to use the skills I’ve gained in my 30-year public service career and continue to add to public policy and delivery from a whole new vantage point,’ Kerri said. ‘I’m particularly passionate about good governance, change management and the importance of strong leadership and culture’.

‘In considering my next career step, I looked for a private sector company with a positive culture that best aligned with my values. Proximity, I believe, is a good fit for me, and I look forward to being a productive part of this dynamic team,’ Kerri added.

Outside of work, Kerri is an active member of the Canberra community. She is a board member of the Canberra Hospital Foundation, Canberra Girls Grammar School and she is a council member of the National Security College at the ANU.
