National Lead – Defence & Analytics
Anthony is a respected Australian practitioner in defence analytics, specialising in strategic force planning, operations analysis and capability decision support. In his last role as Director for Integrated Force, Land and Air at SPA Australia, he led teams delivering analytics insights into complex integrated force problems using a range of tools and techniques.
Over a 28-year career in Defence spanning Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), the Vice-Chief or the Defence Force (VCDF) Executive and Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), he has led analytics studies, force design work and capability assessments supporting projects, programs and portfolio-level investment plans for government submissions. He is the inaugural Industry Lead for the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) Australian Defence Community of Practice (CoP).
For his contributions to the First Principles Review Implementation team on the establishment of Force Design and Integration Division’s he received a Secretary and Chief of Defence Force Commendation. In a prior role as Director Force Planning and Prioritisation , he played a significant role in the design, implementation and socialising of the One Defence Capability System while advancing Defence force design and prioritisation approaches, in collaboration with central agencies and Five Eyes and NATO counterparts.
More recently, as Program Director within CASG Land C4 Systems, he established and led a program management office overseeing delivery governance, security and controls, including export control. Earlier in his career, he contributed to the modernisation of Maritime communications before moving into maritime and joint operations analysis, including leading significant elements of Defence-wide Force Structure Reviews in 2012 and 2015. He also had several successful embedded positions in Navy and Capability Development Group where he was a trusted advisor.
He is recognised for sound judgement, stakeholder engagement, his authenticity, and ability to build strong, effective teams.
He holds postgraduate qualifications in operations research and telecommunications, is a Graduate of the Defence Strategic Studies Course (2020), Australian Institute of Company Directors (2017), and is undertaking doctoral studies focused on the post Cold-war evolution of Australian strategic force-posture decision-making.
Outside of work Anthony is a national-level beer judge, a brewer (ACT Champion Amateur Brewer in 2022), a golfer, and motorsport enthusiast. He is married to Christina, and they have four talented daughters.
