Joseph Mattis

Seconded from our US parent company, Joe has over 40 years of analytics, defence support, and warfighting experience. Joe is retired from the US Navy, where he served on nuclear powered submarines. As Chief Analyst, Joe is responsible for enhancing all analytics efforts, overseeing professional development of Australian analysts, managing our quality assurance program, and maintaining our modern suite of analytic capabilities.

Joe’s qualifications include a Master of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School; dedicated training in specific warfare simulation models including STORM, GCAM, and JTLS-GO; membership in international operations research organisations including the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the US Military Operations Research Society (MORS), and the Australian Society for Operations Research (ASOR); and over 30 years of practical experience ranging from model developer to project lead to program manager.

Fun fact, Joe and his wife have been enjoying a whole food, plant-based diet for over a year now and they both love the food in Australia – especially the wide variety of international cuisine. Additionally, Joe can often be seen powerwalking along Lake Burley Griffin in the early mornings for exercise.
